Every few weeks we are introduced to shops changing their layout to accommodate new trends, styles and silhouettes eager to make it into our wardrobe. With the world's financial markets going into recession, I wondered how the retail world was going to be affected by it.

I asked some shoppers on Northumberland Street, Newcastle upon Tyne if it had an effect on them and how.

I was pleasantly surprised with my results and thought that the credit crunch would have affected the general public a lot more. I asked Rachel, 26, if she had changed her buying habits - she replied, "It doesn’t worry me, but I do think twice now when going into Primark!". Jackie, 61, said, "Yes I've cut back. I worry a lot about paying bills because of the price of gas and electric".

Personally I have been a lot more careful with my money over the last few months. The oncoming dread of living in London for a year in the middle of a recession causes me to worry greatly.

So with the emphasis on price or longevity, here are my seven credit crunch must haves for this season and beyond!
