Summer Trends
Summer 2009 is going to be hot! After three years of washed out summers, we have been predicted an above average hot sunny barbecue summer! As the temperature heats up, scorching hot fashion trends for Summer 2009 start to make an appearance. From designers to colours, styles and fabrics, all you need to know, male or female, when it comes to fashion trends for Summer 2009 is right here.
This summer the fabric to be seen in is sheer! Stella McCartney leads the way in this fashion trend that you can literally, see-through! If nude is not for you, then try blue! Blue is all over the catwalk and is THE colour of 2009. Non-leather bikers jackets as worn by Beyonce, and ankle grazer trousers, with skin tight ankle boots will make you look as hot as the weather is predicted to be!
For fashion that is off the hook, think off the shoulder! The asymmetric one shouldered top or dress are ideal to bare some flesh in during summer 2009. Channel your Greek Goddess for glamour, think Angelina Jolie in Cannes. And, if you want to dress like a supermodel, then the irrepressible fashion trend setter that is Kate Moss, has a brand new collection at Top Shop. It is all about black and white animal prints, fringed tops and waist coats.
Shoes and sandals are sky-high this season, with the fetish shoe still remaining a strong influence. Mules are also making a welcome comeback, as are nude shoes (as worn by Penelope Cruz). This summer think, black, white and chic. Try silk shorts on for style and comfort, and a bandage dress for evening wear that`s hot, and will hold you in all the right places! And for the brave, try a jumpsuit!
Perhaps its another eighties revival, but there are hints for a Gothic jewellery renaissance. Think rosary beads, crosses, and an Alexander McQueen skull key chain!
For men, its "suits you, sir" all the way. Ditch those skinny boy suits, and man-up, with a broad shouldered double breasted suit - and don`t forget the waist coat! For rainy days bring along a Trench coat - or for a more casual look, check out a Jasper Conran terrace jacket.
Along with some an Eastern Edge, the casual trend for summer 2009 for men, is New Labor, and we don`t mean Tony Blair! This is all about hard manual labour, think Irish Setter and Bottega Veneta. Retro album cover T-shirts are very hot this summer as are horizontal striped Tees. Volcom clothing is making its mark with the kids on the streets.
Popular mens accessories include, Aviator sunglasses, Designer armbands, and leather necklaces. For those who can afford to splash out, finish the look with a Dsquared belt, Borsalino hat and a Tendence watch.
The hottest accessories for women in summer 2009 come from; jewellery by les nereides, Sunglasses from Chloe and hats from Dsquared.
Fashion Tips for Spring and Summer
The spring and summer 2009 fashion collections have been designed with long, lazy, warm days and evenings in mind. The focus is very much on femininity, with plenty of frills and ruffles around necklines, and bold floral prints, as well as lots of joyful polka dots combined with bold stripes, and wild animal prints. Fabrics are cool and floaty, with translucent satins and silks in pastel shades. As for the colour of the season, hot fuschia, lilac and magenta dominate dresses, skirts and blouses. Skinny pants are worn with diaphanous and floaty baggy blouses to the thigh, and can be dressed up for evening wear with peep toe platform shoes with outrageous heels or dressed down for day wear with flat pumps. There is a definite retro feel to many of the spring and summer designs, with 1950s style summer dresses featuring fitted bodices and full skirts with large multi-coloured floral patterns and no sleeves. Worn with patent heels, large patent shoulder bags and heaps of wooden bangles,
this is the signature style for summer, and can be paired with a shrug or tailored cropped jacket in contrasting colours for those cooler evenings. Evening wear also focuses on the tailored little white dress replacing the little black dress, and looks stunning with black shoes, bag and jewellery. Harem pants are making a welcome come back, and are great for those of us who are not the perfect 10, hiding a multitude of sins. These are paired with slim fitting tanks and heels for a refreshing new look. Winter coats are replaced by light weight rain coats in a classic double breasted belted and kick pleated style, but produced in gorgeous satins and silk, making them great for evening wear. Hot colours are favoured by designers such as DKNY, with oranges and purples in psychedelic patterns. Marc Jacobs has also gone for vibrant colours, such as his yellow patent bag with simple clasp and pleated front.
Square toe and peep toe shoes with chunky heels are a must for summer, although there is a great resurgence of flat shoes, especially glossy patent pumps that can be worn with casual day wear or more formal evening wear. Shoes with fringed features in purple shades are reminiscent of the 1960 hippy era. Animal prints are still very much in evidence, especially in foot wear, belts, bags and jewellery. Earrings are large, long and bright. Coordinate these with matching necklaces, bangles and huge rings for the look of spring and summer. It is time to put the black handbags away in the cupboard and invest in a cute tote bag for summer. These look great in animal print, bold and vibrant colours or soft muted lilac.
Jeans range from ultra skinny to super flared, and ripped jeans in sun washed shades have a very summery feel. Paired with a cropped tailored silky jacket, jeans are still as versatile as ever. Tee shirts are carrying the retro theme, with screen prints of old album sleeves, loud animal prints and slogans, particularly in warm magenta tones and look great with Armani designer jeans. Hairstyles are also retro this season, with seriously severe and short fringes and extra short cropped bobs, as well as wild tousled hair, in warm red and copper tones.
